Your First Event: What to Expect and How to Prepare

Welcome to the Muay Thai Development League! Participating in your first event is a huge step in your Muay Thai journey. The MDL is designed to help fighters grow in a safe, structured, and educational environment. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to ensure you're mentally and physically prepared for your first semi-contact event.

Getting Equipped: Mentally and Physically

To get the most out of your first MDL event, preparation is key.

  • Mentally: Learn the rules and understand the Aggression Level System (AGL). This ensures you can adapt your intensity and approach to align with the semi-contact format.

  • Physically: Pack your gear and make sure it’s ready to go! Here's what you need:

Equipment Checklist: Part 1

Your gear is essential for your safety and the quality of your experience.

  • Headgear: Neutral colors only (red and blue are for corner designations).

  • Gloves: Ensure they’re the correct weight and in good condition.

  • Shin Pads: Full coverage for maximum protection.

Event Day Basics

Here’s how to ensure your event day goes smoothly:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water to keep yourself refreshed.

  2. Snack Wisely: Pack light snacks like protein bars for sustained energy.

  3. Be Comfortable: Flip-flops or slides are great for moving around between bouts. Please only go barefoot on the mats. Not the venue floor and especially not in the bathrooms

  4. Team Support: Have your coach and team ready to provide guidance and cheer you on.
